First Church of Christ, Scientist, Columbia, Missouri, is one of the worldwide branches of The Mother Church.
The first record of interest in Christian Science in Columbia dates from 1893, when a resident was healed through reading Science and Health. She and a friend began studying the textbook together in 1896, and by 1899, a group had formed and was meeting regularly in the Powers Hotel to read the Bible lesson.
Interest grew and in 1911 a Christian Science Society was organized, meeting in different downtown buildings. A Sunday School was established in 1914 and a Reading Room opened to the public in 1918. That same year The Mother Church officially approved the group as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Columbia, Missouri. In 2022, the church again became known as Christian Science Society, Columbia, Missouri.

Her life's work, based on an enlightened understanding of the Bible, was to bring to the world the spiritual nature of God and of God's creation, “to organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.”
